Hillary Clinton has been spotted dancing and drinking in a bar called Havana while attending a summit of American nations – where the US banned Cuba from attending.
The US Secretary of State was snapped dancing with female aides and drinking from a beer bottle as Cuban music blasted in the venue in Cartagena, Colombia, where leaders of 33 nations from North, Central and South America had gathered.
“She looked like she was having a great time,” one witness, who saw Mrs Clinton at the bar, said.
The US has enforced a trade embargo for more than 50 years with Cuba after Fidel Castro seized power in the Caribbean island.
However, amid the economic restrictions Cuba has been able to flourish in some areas, and the CIA now admits the infant mortality in the capitalist US is more than 20% higher than on the communist island.
Mrs Clinton’s decision to visit the Cuba-themed bar early on Sunday comes after a minor revolt among countries opposed to the US imposition of a summit ban against Cuba.
The leftist bloc of nations – including Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Nicaragua and some Caribbean nations all oppose the ongoing isolation of the Castro regime, which was kicked out of theOrganisation of American Statesshortly after its 1959 revolution.
Bolivia’s foreign minister David Choquehuanca said: “This is the last summit of the Americas – unless Cuba is allowed to take part.”
Due to the hostile US and Canadian line on Cuba and resistance to a relaxation of the war on drugs, the heads of state failed to produce a final declaration as the two-day summit fizzled out on Sunday afternoon.
US President Barack Obama was left bruised by the unprecedented Latin American opposition, which also exposed Washington’s declining influence in the region as China courts the nations aggressively through trade.
Mr Obama was also hit by allegations against his massive secret service detail, which was rocked byclaims they used Colombian prostitutes.
A big embarrassment for Mr Obama and a blow to the prestige of his secret service – it became the talk of the town in the historic Caribbean coastal city of Cartagena.
Eleven secret service agents were sent home and five military servicemen grounded after apparently trying to take prostitutes back to their hotel the day before Obama arrived.
Mr Obama said he would be “angry” if the allegations against his guards were proven.
